Collie, who sustained the hand injury against the Washington Redskins this past Sunday, underwent hand surgery this week “that is expected to sideline him a few weeks,” Adam Schefter of ESPN reported via Twitter Thursday.

The news comes in the wake of other serious injury issues for the Colts, most notably the chance that Pro Bowl tight end Dallas Clark could miss significant time.

Clark, a Pro Bowl selection in 2009 and the NFL’s leading receiver among tight ends, was in Cleveland Thursday visiting with hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham.

“We’re just not sure right now whether Dallas would be out a few weeks, or if it’s going to be longer than that,” Clark’s agent, Neil Cornrich, told NFL.com.

Clark long has been a key to the Colts’ offense, and has 31 receptions for 295 yards and three touchdowns this season. Collie has emerged as a critical member of the offense, too, and is the Colts’ second-leading receiver with 37 receptions for 446 yards and five touchdowns.

Also, Colts running back Joseph Addai left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury.

“We don’t know how long it’s going to be,” Addai said. “It could be any time from a couple of hours to four or five weeks. We really don’t know. It’s a day-to-day process.”

The Colts played the Redskins Sunday without CB Jacob Lacey (foot), MLB Gary Brackett (groin), WR Anthony Gonzalez (ankle), S Bob Sanders (biceps) and RB Donald Brown (hamstring).

The Colts are off this week, then host the Texans on Monday, Nov. 1.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell said this week the bye was coming at an opportune time.

“A very good time, because we’ve been pretty banged up, so it will give us a chance to rest a few guys and see if we can get them back for the next contest,” Caldwell said, “but it’s also a delicate balancing act because you also have to try to continue to get better as well.”
