Chief Judge Belvin Perry’s rulings on Friday generated most of the headlines in the Casey Anthony case.
But many documents released in the case that same day were generating coverage this weekend. More than 40 transcribed depositions taken by the defense were made public.
Central Florida News 13 explored the friendship of Anthony and Robyn Adams in the Orange County Jail. Resourceful reporter Adam Longo delved into Adams’ deposition to explain how the two women became friends. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Adams is serving a 10-year sentence on drug charges. Perry ruled that Anthony’s statements to Adams will be part of the murder trial, which starts in May.
Adams recalled that she waved to Anthony when other inmates were calling Anthony names and spitting in her direction. Adams told defense attorney Jose Baez that she befriended Anthony “because everyone was so mean to her.”
Longo highlighted these words from Adams in the deposition: “Casey and I did talk way back when about writing a book. We talked about doing a lot of things together. She wanted to write a book about this situation.”
Adams also explained that Anthony’s story about the mystery nanny Zenaida Gonzalez changed over time and that Anthony was “hysterical” and “a mess” the night after Caylee’s remains were found in December 2008.
But Adams told Baez that Anthony “affected my life very positively” and “she has a good heart.”
At 6 tonight, Central Florida News 13 will offer a story about Anthony’s asking a neighbor for a shovel. The documents released Friday totaled more than 3,000 pages, and you’re likely to hear more about them this week.
