Extended unemployment benefits kick in Sunday
October 5th, 2009 | by |Thousands of Oregonians who have exhausted their unemployment benefits will get some help beginning Sunday, Oct. 4, when state emergency benefits kick in.
The benefits provide an additional 13 weeks of help for people whose unemployment insurance ended after May 1, 2007. People eligible for the extra help have received notices from the Oregon Employment Department.
The extended benefits end Jan. 2, 2010.
People who might be eligible for the benefits should file claims as soon as possible after Sunday.
As of Sept. 26, more than 162,000 Oregonians were receiving unemployment insurance benefits.
