Junior Seau Drives SUV Off Cliff After Being Released From Jail

The former N.F.L. star linebacker Junior Seau crashed his sport utility vehicle down a steep slope early Monday near Carlsbad, Calif., sustaining minor injuries less than nine hours after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
Seau’s white Cadillac was found on the beach about 100 feet below the roadside, said Carlsbad Police Lt. Kelly Cain. Cain said it was not a sheer cliff, but was a significant, rough slope. Seau was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital in San Diego.
Seau’s 25-year-old live-in girlfriend told authorities that Seau assaulted her during an argument Sunday night at his Oceanside home, according to the Oceanside police. She appeared to have minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
Seau, 41, was arrested outside his home about two hours after the police arrived. Seau was freed on bail from the San Diego County jail.
A 12-time Pro Bowler, Seau was drafted by the San Diego Chargers with the fifth overall pick in 1990. He spent 13 seasons in San Diego, was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2003, flirted twice with retirement and spent parts of the past two seasons with the New England Patriots.
