National Cathedral spire suffers damage in earthquake

National Cathedral, an Episcopal church in DC and a landmark on the city’s skyline, suffered damage in Tuesday’s earthquake. The church is the sixth largest cathedral in the world and the second largest in the United States, according to church records.
The church released a statement Tuesday afternoon and posted updates on its Twitter account.
“The Cathedral structure was damaged in today’s earthquake, but we are thankful that no injuries have occurred…”less than a minute ago via HootSuite

National Cathedral has been the location of several presidential funerals (including Ford’s and Eisenhower’s). It was also where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his final sermon before his assassination.
