Steve Phillips — former General Manager of the New York Mets — has reportedly been fired from his job as a baseball analyst at ESPN, following reports that surfaced last week that Phillips had an affair with a female coworker.

A spokesperson for the cable network released the following statement to “The Insider”: “[Phillips'] ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways.”

Phillips released a statement to “The Insider” on Thursday that he was taking a leave of absence following reports that he had become romantically involved with a female ESPN employee.
